    First up, two reports were released on demand for gold and platinum, showing some interesting trends. Also, some controversy for the proposed Boy Scouts Commemorative, Palladium Saint Gaudens coins, GSA and Carson City Morgan Dollars, the Simpsons and coin collecting, and notable auctions. On to the links…

    According to the World Gold Council, demand for gold in terms of tonnage dropped 16% from a year ago. However, in terms of cash value, demand was up 20%. Jewelry demand fell 21%. Demand from ETFs doubled.

    According to a report from Johnson Matthey, platinum demand exceeded supply in 2007 with a deficit of 480,000 ounces. Palladium supply exceeded demand with a surplus of 1.75 million ounces.

    The House of Representatives passed an act for the production of a Boy Scouts Commemorative Coin with strong bipartisan support. But in the public arena, the proposal has been met with some controversy. Here’s another earlier article discussing some of the issues.

    The act for the Palladium Saint Gaudens Double Eagle coins was also passed.
