    Still more reaction to the Wall Street Journal story on the 2008 Silver Eagle shortage as the Silver Institute urges the US Mint to take action. Also, Odyssey Marine Exploration with two new discoveries, a proposed commemorative coin for disabled veterans, 2008 coins in circulation, numismatics.com domain name, an update on 2008-W Silver Eagles with Reverse of 2007, and notable auctions.     Yesterday gold and other precious metals continued to drop. Reasons cited included a stronger dollar and lower oil prices, but some are actually anticipating that falling oil prices will cause investment dollars to flow back into gold.

    In more response to the recent WSJ article on the 2008 Silver Eagle shortage, the Silver Institute has written a letter urging the US Mint stabilize the program and requested a meeting with the US Mint Director. (pdf link to the letter)

    Odyssey Marine Exploration is in the news again as they filed claims for two newly discovered shipwrecks in the area of the English Channel. Also, here’s a recently published analysis on the financial impacts of the upcoming Discovery Shipwreck Series.

    Another proposed commemorative coin is working its way through the system. This one will honor veterans who became disabled for life while serving in the armed forces. Read more about the Disabled Veterans Coins.

    Have you seen any 2008 coins in circulation? So far I have only seen 2008 State Quarters, but Coin of the Day recently encountered a 2008-D Nickel.
