June 20, 2008: CAC Coins, Native American Dollars, National Park Quarters
By admin | June 20, 2008
Welcome to your Friday edition of Coin Update!
Renewed strength in gold is bringing out some shocking predictions about the future price of the yellow metal. Also, the winning D.C. Quarter design, CACC selects a design for the 2009 Native American Dollar, two coin related lawsuits against the US Government, CAC Coins, National Park Quarters, and notable auctions. On to the links…
Gold is back over $900 per ounce this morning. Is it on its way to $5,000? How about $20,000?
I don’t follow the base metals prices very closely, but look at the declines for nickel and zinc. Both are down more than 50% from their peak prices.
In a very close race, Duke Ellington is the winning design in voting for the new D.C. Quarter.
The CCAC has made their recommendation for the design to grace the reverse of the upcoming Native American Dollars.
US Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson has asked a court to throw out the lawsuit against him demanding the issuance of Presidential Dollars for 10 men who served as leaders under the Articles of Confederation.
In other “lawsuits against the government” news, the US Government has been sued over the seizure of Bernard von NotHaus’s “Liberty Dollars.” The lawsuit seeks the return of over 7 tons of metal and coins were seized in November during an FBI and Secret Service raid.
An interview with John Albanase, founder and President of CAC.
EBay has created a new Diamond PowerSeller level, which includes potentially discounted fees. To get in, you need $500,000 per month in sales.
I’ve never thought about it, but some coin collecting terminology like “MS65FS” must be puzzling for non-collectors.
Numismaster on the newly proposed National Parks Quarters.
And now for some notable auctions. First, “the other Double Die Lincoln.” The 1972 Double Die Lincoln Cent MS65RB.
The 1940-S Liberty Walking Half PCGS MS66 is part of a group of high grade PCGS’s Walkers offered by this seller.
And lastly, the 2008-W Silver Eagle Reverse of 2007 NGC MS 70.
Have a great weekend!

If gold gets even half way to $5,000 I’m selling every piece I own including old circuit boards.
Great site I didn’t know they were so much daily coin news. I must add you to my link list before I I forget.
Have a super-happy-fun weekend.

The U.S. Government’s siezure of the precious metal Liberty Dollar’s without any legal action constitutes theft, pure and simple. I think they should not only be sued for the return of these precious metals, but also for lost business and punitive damages. This is the United States of America, not Nazi Germany, perhaps we need yet another agency in charge of baby sitting for the other agencys? The Liberty Dollar in no way implies it can be accepted in commerse as anything more than a bullion item. Is the Government afraid that people will begin to realize just how worthless our money has become?
