Gold Buffalo CoinWelcome back to Coin Update!

We hope you enjoyed your weekend. Now its time once again for some fresh coin collecting news! First, some articles related to gold’s recent run. Also, Fractional Gold Buffalo Coins, the CNA’s 2008 Convention, a coin related world’s record, surprising roll find, Steward Blay interview, 1928 Peace Dollars, 1952 Superbird, and notable auctions. On to the links…

On Friday, the gold held by the SPDR Gold Shares ETF increased by an astounding 46 tonnes!

But oddly, sentiment for gold investment still remains muted.

The US Mint has announced the release date and pricing for the highly awaited Fractional Gold Buffalo Coins. Both proof and uncirculated versions will be offered in one ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce sizes.

The Canadian Numismatic Association will hold their 2008 convention this week July 17 to July 20th in Ottawa.

Another thought provoking reaction to the National Parks Quarters proposal. Will it lead to “collector burnout”?

There’s a new world record for the longest line of coins. A forty mile long chain of pennies was placed on the ground in Fort Scott, Kansas.

    How’s this for a roll find? A 1925 Lexington-Concord Sesquicentennial Commemorative Half.

David Hall interviews Stewart Blay, owner of the legendary Red Copper Collection which will be on display at the ANA’s World’s Fair of Money.

Numismatic News takes a look at the key date 1928 Peace Dollar.

And PCGS tells us about the 1952 Washington Quarter Superbird!

And now for some notable auctions. This one has just a few hours to go, but worth checking out. It’s an original shotgun roll of BU Morgan Dollars obtained from a Carson City bank around the turn of the century.

A 2006 Reverse Proof Silver Eagle Error. The coin has a 30 degree rotated reverse.

And last, a small collection of Proof Like Morgan Dollars in old PCGS rattler holders.

    That’s it. Have a nice Monday! :)
