August 15, 2008: American Gold Eagle Sales Suspended, DMPL Morgan Dollars
Welcome to Coin Update!
Today’s update comes a bit later than usual since I spent the morning watching Jason. I also spent a little bit of time on his website iJason and put up a video of him crawling.
Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled coin collecting news update. First, has the US Mint suspended sales of bullion American Gold Eagles? Also, the Andrew Jackson Dollar launch, a publicly traded company that invests in coins, DGSE Companies results, DMPL Morgan Dollars, and notable auctions. On to the links…
After breaking the previous eight day losing streak, gold is down again today on a stronger dollar.
I have been seeing reports that the US Mint has suspended sales of American Gold Eagles. The news first broke from APMEX Blog and has also been published on the GATA website. These are the bullion versions sold through a network of authorized dealers. The collectible versions are still for sale on the US Mint’s website. Digg the news.
In other news, the US Mint recaps the events of the Andrew Jackson Dollars launch ceremony.
I have not heard of this company until today, but apparently Avarae Global Coins is an AIM listed company which invests in rare coins. The raised money from investors and have been acquiring coins for a coin portfolio.
DGSE Companies, which includes Superior Galleries and other bullion and rare coin companies, announce their second quarter results.
According to this article, the demand for Deep Mirror Proof Like (DMPL) Morgan Dollars is “insatiable.”
And now for some notable auctions. First, here’s an 1890-CC GSA Morgan Dollar. It comes in the original holder and even with the original shipping box.
Is this type of holder a precursor to PCGS slabs?
By my calendar, Alaska State Quarters will debut on August 25th. For those who can’t wait, here’s a pre-sale for a 2008 Alaska Quarter P&D Set.
Have a fabulous weekend!
