    Peace DollarWelcome to Coin Update!

Before you pack up for the weekend, here’s another update of coin collecting news from around the web! Recent gold activity and the history of gold. Also, sales figures for the 2008-W Gold Eagles, the US Mint’s pricing, presidential candidates on coins, the famous 1964 Peace Dollar, and notable auctions. On to the links…

Bullish options activity suggests that gold may be getting ready to make a come back.

Sales figures for the 2008-W Uncirculated and Proof Gold Eagles are running far behind last year’s figures. Is this an opportunity or temporary anomaly?

Susan Headley takes on the topic of price gouging by the United States Mint.

How do the presidential candidates stack up from a numismatic perspective?

A little bit of history. Here’s a letter from the Department of the Treasury from 1973 regarding 1964 Peace Dollars struck by the Denver Mint.

We’ve all heard the expression “Buy the book before your buy the coin.” Should it be “Buy the book before you buy, or sell, the coin”?

Numismaster takes a worthwhile look at the history of gold in the US.

And now for some notable auctions. An interesting looking 11 cent coin.  It’s a 1995 Lincoln Cent struck on a Roosevelt Dime. The alignment makes it look like Lincoln is wearing an Olympic head wreath.

This 1883-CC Morgan Dollar has a beautiful deep golden toned obverse. It’s also graded MS 65 PL in an older NGC holder.

And last, the last State Quarter in perfect grade. Here’s the 2008-S Hawaii State Quarter graded PCGS PR70DCAM.

That’s it for the week. Have a wonderful weekend!
