We’re back with a fresh round up of coin collecting news from around the web! First, the price of gold is fluctuating just above its recent low. Also, world gold production, State Quarters, treasure in the cellar, gold smuggling gone wrong, a new silver proof British Motorcar series, and notable auctions. On to the links…
The price of gold continues to fluctuate around the $800 level. It’s most recent low was $773.90 in mid-August. It’s all time high of $1,030.80 was reached in March.
Here’s a look at the world production of gold. Notably, even though prices have been rising, this has not spurred increased production.

A trio of Chinese men smuggle a “ball of gold” from Kyrgyzstan to China, only to find that the metal was actually depleted uranium. Quote from the article: “They were surprised that at night when the lights went out the treasure sparkled and glittered.”
The Royal British Mint has announced a series of 18 silver proof coins featuring Classic British Motorcars.
A bit off topic, but loosely related to coins. Four out of nine customers told this pizza delivery driver to keep the coins as his tip. My wife and I have had a few discussions about the proper tip for pizza delivery, and “keep the coins” never even remotely came up as an option.
