Since stock market is definitely impacting gold, precious metals, and coins, we’ll start with an article about stocks. The stock market melted down earlier this week, and today seems poised to rocket skyward. I write a separate blog tracking a recently created stock portfolio. When the market was plunging into the abyss, I wrote this post Learning from the Market Meltdown.

As the stock market recovers, gold is letting go of some of its recent gains. According to this article, gold futures declined the most since 1980 in early trading.

And Numismaster has some timely perspectives on gold from Larry Goldberg.

Coin counterfeiting equipment goes up for auction tomorrow. To me it seems a bit odd that the police would auction equipment that could potentially set up a new counterfieter.

An article from one of the US Mint’s test cities for the Presidential Dollar PR campaign. Some businesses will exclusively use dollar coins instead of bills for a week.

More Presidential Dollar news, the motto “In God We Trust” will find itself along the bottom edge of the obverse starting in 2009.

DGS authenticates the second known example of a rare variety, the Duvall 4-E variety of the 1900 Lafayette Dollar.

In world coin news, the Royal Canadian Mint recently displayed the 100 kilogram .9999 pure gold coin at the 2008 Olympic expo. The coin has a face value of $1 million dollars and has been certified by Guinness as the world’s largest gold bullion coin.

And now for some notable auctions. First, an 1892-CC Morgan Dollar from the Redfield Hoard.
