We’re back with another round up of coin collecting news. First a new record for the Gold ETF. Also, a call for coin collecting blogs, more details on the half-dime legislation, blogosphere splash back on the Obama coins, 2009 Lincoln Cent designer Charles Vickers, and notable auctions. On to the links…
The exchange traded fund for Gold (GLD) now holds a record 724.94 tonnes of gold.
Here’s a recent article explaining how the GLD exchange traded fund works.
Susan Headley has put out a call for coin collecting blogs. I’m interested to see if any new blogs turn up that I don’t follow already.
CoinNews has details for the Half-Dime legislation. The legislation in its current form does not look too promising.
Over at Coin Chat Radio, Dave Harper recently interviewed Rep. Frank Lewis who introduced the legislation.
A few days ago, I posted news about privately minted Obama Coins. The political blogosphere has gotten a hold of that story criticizing the legend which indicates that he is already president and the “arrogance” of including a living person on a coin. Some reactions can be found here, here, and here.
By now, we have all seen the new 2009 Lincoln Cent reverse designs. Here’s an article which takes a brief look at one of the designers Charles Vickers. His design is used as today’s coin image.
Has it been 49 States already? The release date for the upcoming Alaska First Day Cover has been announced as September 30.
Viewpoint published on Numismaster: Everyone makes a big deal about circulating dollar coins, but most coins in general don’t circulate.
And now for some notable auctions. A tough date from one of my favorite series. Here’s the 1934-S Peace Dollar PCGS MS64.
This looks like an excellent lot of original BU Rolls. Included are Lincoln Cents from between 1947 to 1960, Jefferson Nickels from 1953 to 1957, and a few more.
And last, many had predicted that the price of the 2008-W Silver Eagle Reverse of 2007 would crash. Prices have actually held up relatively well, and the supply available for sale has certainly dwindled. Here are the current ebay auctions for the new variety.
Have a nice Wednesday!
Wow I read that last Obama coin link and wow those bloggers are idiots. They actually think Obama is making these coins.
I remember the George W Bush Coin from the American Mint and these are just fine because they’re not real. What really irked me was a company selling McCain medals. I lost the link but it’s out there.
