We’re back for another daily round up of coin collecting news! We start off with the stories on swapping real estate for gold and the new media attention on the actions of the US Mint. Also, a new president for PCGS, 2009 Presidential Dollar designs, dropped letter State Quarter, a new circulating world coin type, and notable auctions. On to the links…
Talk about foresight. This couple sold their home four years ago and used the money to buy gold. Quote from the article: “Over thousands of years gold has never reached zero. The price is a risk, but at the end of the day I will still have the same amount of gold.”
The mainstream press continues to pay close attention to the US Mint’s actions surrounding the suspensions and shortages of gold and silver bullion coins. Here are the articles from the Wall Street Journal (behind paywall) and CNNMoney.
Collectors Universe has announced the new president of PCGS, Don Willis. The prior president Ron Guth recently resigned to run another Collectors Universe property, CoinFacts.com.
The United States Mint has released the 2009 Presidential Dollar designs. Notably, next year the “In God We Trust” motto will be moved from its controversial placement on the edge of the coin to the obverse of the coin.
Numismaster has a good explaination and nice image of a State Quarter with a “dropped letter.”
