October 28, 2008: Prospecting for Gold, Hawaii State Quarters, Coin Market Report
We’re back with another daily round up of coin collecting news from around the internet! First, an article about the growing number of people trying their hand at prospecting for gold. Also, the Hawaii State Quarter, Theodore Roosevelt’s legacy for coin collectors, a duo of coin market reports, and notable auctions. On to the links…
Do you want to learn how to prospect for gold? It seems to be getting more popular. Here’s an article about a prospecting club called the New 49′ers. You can find their website at GoldGold.com.
This week’s Numismaster market update from Patrick Heller is titled “Why Gold Might Soar Over the Next Four Weeks.” Two weeks ago his update was titled “Will Gold Explode Higher in the Next Few Days?” I’m sure he’ll get his timing down eventually.
Can you believe it’s been 10 years already? The Hawaii State Quarter will be released into circulation on November 3, 2008.
Yesterday was the 150th anniversary of Theodore Roosevelt’s birth. Coin Collector’s Blog takes a look at the role he played in redesigning coinage.
The PNG will hold it’s final Share the Knowledge educational seminar this November at the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention. The discussion is titled “What are the Perspicacious Ways to Collect and Invest in Coins and Currency.” (I had to look it up. Perspicacious - having keen mental perception or understanding)
Two coin market reports. The first from Doug Winter who focuses on the strength of the Liberty Head Double Eagles. Another from Numismaster that provides opinions from a variety of dealers on the market’s strength.
And now for some notable auctions. This Franklin Half has a lot going on. It has a double clip and some beautiful rainbow toning. It’s in an old ANACS holder graded MS 64.
One of the nicest Matte Proof Lincoln Cents that I have seen land on eBay. It’s a 1913 Proof Lincoln Cent NGC PF 67 RD.
Have a great evening!
