Here's comes a round up of coin collecting news to take you into the weekend. First, gold reaches two milestones. Also, the US Mint's 2009 product schedule, 2008-W Uncircualted & Proof Gold Eagles, tax bill paid with coins, collector strikes it big with an acquisition from a police auction, an impressive coin photo album, and notable auctions. In the past week, gold has quietly reached two milestones. First, it is now showing a positive return for the year and second, it briefly traded above the price of platinum for the first time this decade.

The US Mint posts their initial product schedule for 2009. Notables: the Ultra High Relief Double Eagle will debut January 22 and the 2009 Proof Silver Eagle is curiously absent.

Mint News Blog takes a look at the 2008-W Uncirculated & Proof Gold Eagles. Sales figures are hinting at low final mintages and a few coins have sold out already.

A man upset about increases to his property taxes paid the entire $21,000 tax bill in coins. Interestingly, they were all Susan B. Anthony Dollars.

Wow! A coin purchased for $400 at a police auction turns out to be worth $300,000.
