We have a brief coin collecting news update for today, during what will be a holiday shortened week. First, two technical examinations of gold. The Washington Metro begins using dollar coins,  an article strongly opposed to the National Parks Quarters series, the coinage problems in the Philippines, 2009 coin predictions, and notable auctions. Two interesting technical examinations of precious metals. The first sees bullish patterns for gold and silver. The second sees encouraging long term trends and highlights the new high for tonnes in the GLD trust.

As announced by the US Mint, the Washington Metro Transit system now accepts and dispenses dollar coins. Point of interest at the end of the release, the US Mint recycles 1% of its old coins into new coins annually.
