May 20, 2009: Gold ATMs, New US Mint Products, Rail Splitter Penny Sales

We’re back with another round up of coin collecting news from around the internet. First, a counterargument to some of one of the gold manipulation theories. Also Gold ATMs and rhodium coins, two upcoming products from the US Mint, John Tyler Presidential Dollar launch, coin book review, winner of the PNG’s YN scholarship contest, events from the Long Beach Expo, and notable auctions. There have been many articles claiming gold price manipulation. Here’s the other side of the argument, specifically addressing claims made by Ted Butler.

Another interesting gold related story, a German company plans to set up 500 Gold ATMs which will automatically dispense gold for cash.

More information on the upcoming rhodium bullion coins, including an interview with the owner and operator of the mint that will produce them.

Two more upcoming products from the US Mint, the John Tyler Presidential Dollar Rolls and the long awaited 2009 Proof Set.

Meanwhile, the 2009 Lincoln Rail Splitter Penny Two Roll Set has recorded sales of over 200,000, more than doubling the total sales of the first set.

Even though the John Tyler Dollar won’t be released until tomorrow, the launch ceremony was held yesterday at the home of his descendants. No coin exchange was held after the ceremony.

Next, the Double Prosperity Set contained the one-half ounce 2008-W Gold Buffalo and Gold Eagle Coins. Both coins have low mintages and are in steady demand. Here are listings for the Double Prosperity Set.

Last a modern rarity. The 1968 “No S” Roosevelt Dime graded PCGS PR67. Only a handful of “No S” proof coins have been slabbed by the grading services.
