Lincoln CentWelcome back to Coin Update!

Here’s a round up of coin collecting news and articles to take you into the weekend! First, some local press coverage of the third redesigned 2009 penny launch in Springfield, Illinois. Also, the US Mint has quietly altered the finish used on this year’s proof coins, the latest Mint Stats, Cash 4 Gold review, 1968-S Lincoln Cents, accidental fortunes, 2010 Perth Mint bullion, quarter roll search results, and notable auctions. On to the links…

A report from a local paper in Springfield, Illinois on yesterday’s 2009 Lincoln Cent “Professional Life” launch ceremony. It includes some interesting background on the selection of the design.  After a design featuring Lincoln reading a book was selected by committee, the architect behind the Old State Capitol restoration contacted Senator Dick Durbin, who contacted Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and convinced him to use the alternate design.

Many people have noticed, but I don’t think there has been any widespread reporting about it. The 2009 US Proof Sets feature a new “frostier” finish.

Numismaster gives us the latest Mint Stats indicating the sales figures for United States Mint products. UHR Double Eagle once again posted big gains, but slowed down from last week’s surge.

Over on Coin Update News, I wrote a Cash 4 Gold Review. After a bit of calculating, I determined that we were paid 18% of the gold’s value.
