Yesterday, the CCAC reviewed the design candidates for 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters and issued their recommendations. Read a first hand report of the meeting and see images of the design candidates.

Coingrader Capsule: Hyped Holders on Coin Auction Portals, Part II

EBay announced changes to their fee structure for sellers. Some listings will be “free” with a flat final value fee of 9%, capped at $50. There will also be changes to the fees and treatment of store listings.

The Spanish Mint is considering a coin series featuring unique obverse and reverse design for their 52 different provinces. The idea for the program was inspired by the US 50 State Quarters Program.

New coins from the Polish Mint for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. One of the design elements is a stylized image of a Maple Leaf. I’ve always strongly associated the Maple Leaf with Canadian coins.

The last update included mention that some 2010 Lincoln Union Shield Cents were already in the hands of collectors. NGC has announced that they have already certified and graded some. The article also provides some interesting commentary on the new reverse.

A new site examining the intriguing Liberty Seated Half Dime series, which ran from 1837 to 1873, which was the last year of the silver half dime denomination.

And now for some notable auctions. First, a visually dramatic 1987 Lincoln Cent Double Struck Error. Both strikes are off center, with the second strike rotated 180 degrees from the first.

Next, the one kilo 2010 Austrilain Silver Koala coin issued by the Perth Mint, encapsulated and graded NGC MS 70. The US Mint has plans for their own oversized silver coins with the upcoming America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins.

Last, another 32 coin set of the 1995-1996 Olympic Gold, Silver, and Clad Commemorative Coins. This set includes many low mintage issues.
