November 26, 2010: Native American Dollar Design, PCGS Secure Plus, Alabama Centennial Half Dollar

Welcome back to Coin Update!

We’re back for a post-Thanksgiving round up of coin collecting news and articles from around the internet! First, another 2011 coin design has been revealed by the United States Mint. Also, 2010 Proof Silver Eagle orders deleted, Coingrader Capsule, PCGS Secure Plus program, plus graded coin prices, gold fever, new research on the Alabama Centennial Half Dollar, coin profile, Odyssey Marine Exploration, Estonian euro coins, and notable auctions. The design for the 2011 Native American Dollar has been announced by the United States Mint. The selection agrees with the recommendations of the CCAC and CFA.

Approximately 2,200 orders placed for the 2010 Proof Silver Eagles were deleted in error. The US Mint has been contacting impacted customers to have them resubmit their orders by phone.

The latest Coingrader Capsule shares the results of crossover attempts for a group of Franklin Half Dollars sent to NGC and then PCGS.

Two businesses have “leaked” Estonian euro coins to some coin collectors. Although the Bank of Estonia has pre-distributed starter coin sets, they were not supposed to be released to the public until January 1.
