James K. Polk Presidential Dollar Launch Ceremony in Columbia, Tennessee

The US Mint has released some details on the separate 2009 Proof Lincoln Cent Set that will be offered on August 26. The set is priced at $7.95 and carries a household limit of five.

Local currencies are making a come back, with more communities issuing their own money. Most are being issued as incentives to spend money locally or foster a sense of community.

A Canadian newspaper covers the topic of numismatics and describes two rarities in Canadian coins and currency.

“In what year was the first United States coinage struck?” There are two answers to the question depending on how you ask it. Here’s some information on the less expected answer the 1792 Half Disme.

As reported on CoinLink, a newly found 1792 George Washington Pattern Cent will be offered by Heritage next month.

The verdict has been delivered for the Las Vegas businessman who implemented a payroll system which paid employees in bullion coins and recorded the transactions at face value. He was found guilty on several counts and faces up to 296 years in prison and fines of up to $14 million.
