Welcome to Coin Update!

Two coin related bills have passed in the House and Senate, and now await the President’s signature. The bills will authorize commemorative silver medals for September 11 and gold and silver commemorative coins for the United States Army Infantry.
“Plus” coin grading policies continue to evolve. Michael Bugeja writes on the recent changes to PCGS plus grading, which has separated “plus” from “secure.”

Past Coin Update News contributor “greanmonkey” has created First Day Coin Covers for the Yosemite National Park Quarter. I have received one of the covers in hand, and can say that this is the best one yet.
A “curious specimen” 1914 Gold Eagle from the Johnson-Blue collection is being offered in Stack’s upcoming auction. Is this a proof coin without a matte finish?
David L. Ganz writes about the authority and several cases when gold has been seized by the United States government.
Some things to consider when buying and selling coins from A.C. Dwyer.
Background, history, and issuance of the 1856 Flying Eagle Cent.
And now for some notable auctions. First, an 1883-CC Morgan Dollar in PCGS Secure Plus holder graded MS66+PL.
Next, a 1937 Proof Buffalo Nickel graded NGC PF 66 with CAC sticker.
Last, the 2006 20th Anniversary Gold Eagle Set in NGC multi-coin holder, including the uncirculated coin in MS 70, reverse proof in PF 70, and standard prof in NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo.
That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend!
