Welcome to Coin Update!
We’re back for a brand new round up of coin collecting news and articles from around the internet. This update is a bit shorter than usual, as there seems to be less news as the year winds down. First, the US Mint posts the first version of their 2010 product schedule. Also, 2010 Presidential Dollar release dates, Heritage tackles the topic of Colonials, a recommendation to sell gold coins, Gold Double Eagle price performance, local coin dealer profile, and notable auctions. On to the links…
Late last week, the US Mint published the first version of their 2010 product release schedule. Although this schedule will be updated throughout the coming year, it provides a first look at what products to expect.
Separately, the circulation release dates have recently become available for the 2010 Presidential Dollars. The Millard Fillmore Presidential Dollar will debut in less than two months on February 18, 2010.
The Heritage Blog covers the topic “Colonials“. They provide examples of the the diversity and complexity of some of the coins and tokens included in their definition of the category.
A widely read investment newsletter that recommended buying collectible gold coins back in 2003, now recommends selling the coins. The MS65 Saint Gaudens Double Eagles the newsletter author purchased have risen roughly in line with the price of gold, but didn’t make any money on collector’s premium.
Separately, Numismedia’s most recent market report examines the increase in the price of Gold Double Eagles by grade from MS60 to MS65, showing coins graded MS64 as the strongest performers. They see opportunity in some of theĀ smaller denomination gold coins.
A question and answer session with a coin dealer published in a local New Hampshire newspaper.
And now for some notable auctions. First, a 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent graded PCGS MS63BN. The coin looks to have very attractive surfaces for a brown Lincoln Cent.
A complete set of 1948-1963 BU Franklin Half Dollars housed in three old Seitz coin holders. Some bonus Kennedy Half Dollars are included.
That will wrap it up for today. See you later this week with another update!
