A Senate bill has been introduced which seeks to authorize Mark Twain $5 gold coins and silver dollars to be issued in 2016. There have been numerous attempts to authorize commemorative coins for the author, but none have been successful.
More on the coin legislation front, a House bill would amend the distribution of surcharges from the 2009 Lincoln Silver Dollars. The issue sold out of its maximum authorized mintage, generating total surcharges of up to $5 million.
