A new US Mint sales report is available. This represents the first update in two weeks and includes the opening figures for the Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coin.
Mint News Blog focuses specifically on the sales update for the 2010 Proof Silver Eagle, which has now reached 707,704. After less than three weeks of availability, this amount exceeds last year’s final mintage and ranks as the ninth highest for the series overall.
While everyone waits for information on how the US Mint will handle distribution of the extremely limited number of 2010 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins, here are five possible options that seem to fit within their legal requirements.
Here is Dave Harper’s blog on the ATB silver bullion coin situation, where he writes, “For the moment, the Mint is perceived as aiding and abetting secondary market price gouging. It is a position it does not want to be in and we all now wait to see what steps it will take to change this.”
Voting is now open for the People’s Choice Coin of the Year Awards. Fifteen 2009-dated coins from world mints are in the running, although the US Mint is not included.

An inter-discipliary team of experts at a Canadian university have been analyzing the metal content in ancient Greek and Roman coins to help reconstruct trade routes and economic ups and downs. One of their research tools is a nuclear reactor.
And now for some notable auctions. First, an incredible collection of early U.S. Mint Sets, mostly made up of the low production double Mint Sets issued from 1947 to 1958.
Next, a complete set of 2007-2010 Presidential Dollar Rolls in US Mint branded wrappers. The two William Henry Harrison rolls included in the lot sell for about $200 each.
Last a U.S. coin type set including 76 different coins in a Dansco album.
