We’re back for another fresh round up of coin collecting news and articles from around the internet! First, information on the 2012 Commemorative Coins to be issued by the United States Mint. Also, 1909 VDB Lincoln Cent on its way to Mars, Australian decimalization, special issue 50p coins, collecting classic and modern coins, coin video news from the Long Beach Expo, privy marks, the Soho Mint, coin composition changes in Obama’s 2013 Budget, and notable auctions. Here is a preview of the United States Mint’s 2012 Commemorative Coins, including the designs, maximum mintages, pricing, and other details.

The US Mint has just posted the product pages for the Infantry Solider coins, which can be found in the upcoming products section here.

CoinWorld reports on the 1909 VDB Lincoln Cent en route to Mars on NASA’s Curiosity rover.

Here is a news release from NASA, which includes pictures of the coin, which is used as part of a camera calibration target.

On February 14th 1966, Australia introduced decimal notes and coins, replacing the previous British style system.

President Obama’s 2013 Budget includes a proposal to provide the Treasury Department with the authority to approve new coin compositions. This authority currently rests with Congress.

And now for some notable auctions. First, a nice example of the 1795 Flowing Hair Half Dollar graded PCGS F15.

Next, an auction for privately minted pieces that showcase Felix O. Schlag’s original 1938 Jefferson Nickel design. The original reverse design was much different than the one eventually used.

Last, an auction for all five of the 2010 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins in original US Mint packaging. Each of these numismatic coins has sold out at Mint.
