Happy Friday and welcome to Coin Update!

The worldwide eBay strike continues to uncertain effect, the first article takes a look at trends for eBay’s traffic and competition. A brief history of James Monroe, snowboarding coins, coin forums, an off-beat Friday story, and notable auctions. On to the links…

Are eBay’s recent price and policy changes and the worldwide strike, driving sellers to other auction websites? I’ve personally seen a few eBay coin sellers take the plunge.

Coin Collector’s Blog provides some history on James Monroe and joins the hunt to find the first Monroe Dollar wrong planchet error.

Now from the Royal Canadian Mint, snowboarding coins! CoinNews covers the release of the 25c circulating coin and $25 silver hologram coin.

Doug Winter provides a coin market report.

Are you a member of any coin forums? Here are five popular coin forums that you should check out.

This off-beat Friday story was found by the blog Curator and Collector. A man was caught replacing the end coins of penny rolls with dimes and trying to pass them off as dime rolls. This led to a high speed chase, followed by pursuit on foot!

And now for some notable auctions. Earlier in the week, we noted the upcoming auction for the finest known 1932-D Washington Quarter. Here’s a 1932-D Washington Quarter in PCGS MS63.

Certified Bald Eagle Commemoratives land on eBay. Here they are in NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo, and here are a few left in PF 70 Ultra Cameo.

  1. Thanks for the link, and nice site. When I started my blog on numismatics and museums, I thought I wouldn’t find any others doing news roundups on a daily basis, but I see that I was wrong. It’s a good surprise, though–we’re all filling a niche in our own way. Beautiful layout and colors, by the way!

    All the best,
    Nathan
