Welcome to Coin Update!
We’re back with another timely round up of coin collecting news! The first 2009 quarter honoring the District of Columbia entered circulation today. Also, three more US Mint products join the ranks of the sold out, the US Mint release schedule, National Coin Week, coin related promotion, coin giveaway for students, Girl Scout Commemorative take-two, and notable auctions. On to the links…
Gold closes above the $900 mark. Notably, gold has already reached new all time highs when priced in Euros, Pounds, and Canadian Dollars.
The Washington DC Quarter debuted today. The DCist already has a few in hand.

In US Mint news, the 2008-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle has sold out. Also gone are the 2008 Buffalo Celebration Coin, and 2008 Proof $5 Gold Eagle.
Even though the US Mint has released their Scheduled Products Listing through winter, 2009 American Gold, Silver, Platinum Eagles and 2009 American Gold Buffalo coins are all still missing. Is it possible that these coins will not be offered?
Dave Harper reports that not many coin collectors seem to be excited about National Coin Week. Anyone who is interested or wants to learn more about it, here is the ANA’s page.
An interesting coin related promotion from an Ohio bank. They offered a 10 percent match to anyone who rolled their change and deposited it into a savings account during Roll Your Change Week. They collected $266,000 in coins including a single deposit of more than $4,120.18.
With release of the 2009 Lincoln Penny approaching, Coin Values Online reports that there is plenty of market action for Wheat Cents as well as Lincoln Memorial Cents.
Legislation is introduced for a Girl Scout Commemorative Coin. Similar legislation failed to make it through Congress last year.
An examination of some of the claims for a flyer selling Presidential Dollars at a 200% premium. One of the claims: “You may not have even seen any of these unique $1 coins in circulation because they’re being snatched up and hoarded away as fast as they come out.”
A numismatic giveaway to high school students presented by Paul Hollis.
And now for some notable auctions. The 1879-CC Morgan Dollar in GSA Holder.
An unopened 1950 Proof Set. The auction does not have a picture, but the seller has sold the same in the past and received positive feedbacks.
The biggest lot of gold I have seen in a single auction. A 20 Coin Roll of 2009 1 ounce American Gold Eagle bullion coins.
Have a great evening!
I need to know when and where I can get the new Lincoln coin coming out this week, consumer and collector version (San Francisco). Please help, I need these for my coin club at Brookside Elementary. Thanks. J. Bostic
The US Mint has not yet announced the date when the collectors versions of the 2009 Lincoln Cents will be available.
So far, they have announced that there will be a five coin proof set, which includes the four proof 2009-S Lincoln Cents and 2009 Proof Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar. The annual proof sets would also contain the four proof cents.
