July 12, 2010: 2010 Uncirculated Mint Set, Beaver Money, Value in Collectibles

We’re back after the weekend break with another round up of coin collecting news and articles from around the internet! First, the upcoming release of the 2010 US Mint Set, containing 28 uncirculated coins. Also, interview with the Mint of Poland, 2010 Lincoln Cent mintage, Beaver Money, coin market report, Capped Bust Half Dollars at auction, Standing Liberty Quarters, value in collectibles, new APMEX CEO, RCNA Convention, and notable auctions. Later this week, the United States Mint will release the 2010 Mint Set. Despite having fewer coins than last year’s set, the price has been increased by $4 to $31.95.

An interview with the Grzegorz Stepniak from the Mint of Poland discusses the history of the mint and some past and current Polish coins. This is the latest in an ongoing series of interviews that will be published on Coin Update News.

Will the recent increase in production for the 2010 Lincoln Cent lead to a greater appreciation of the low final mintages for the 2009 Lincoln Cents?

Steven Roach for Coin Values Online notes that the traditionally sleepy month of July has been active due to the increased public demand for gold.

The Legend Numismatics market report has a prediction for the second half of 2010 and the upcoming Boston ANA show.

On a related note, one of the highlight’s of Heritage’s Signature auction at the Boston show will be the Witham Collection of Capped Bust Half Dollars.

The Heritage Blog discusses the often told (although likely untrue) story behind the design change for the Standing Liberty Quarter, which resulted in Liberty being “covered up.”

APMEX has appointed Michael Haynes as CEO, to lead continued growth and change at the previous metals company. He previously served as CEO of Collectors Universe and President at A-Mark Precious Metals and Heritage.

An article about the upcoming Royal Canadian Numismatic Association Convention, which will include a display of the Royal Canadian Mint’s 2010 Olympic Medals.

And now for some notable auctions. First, the massive 1995 Olympics Commemorative Coin Set, including proof and uncirculated $5 gold, silver dollars, and half dollars.

A huge lot of 7,000 Buffalo Nickels and 4,000 Indian Head Cents. The listing includes a cool picture with all 11,000 coins in a pile.

Last, the 2008-W Jackson’s Liberty $10 Gold graded NGC MS 70. This is one of the more popular issues of the First Spouse Coin series in top grade.

    I have a gold coin I want to sell but I dont know how and who to sell it to. It’s a rare 1849 Oregon Exchange Company 10.D 20.G Native Gold Ten.D Coin I know a little about it I just need help.

    For a coin like this, getting it into a major public auction is probably the best avenue. I would recommend contacting Heritage Auction Galleries (HA.com) or a similar company.
