July 30, 2011: ATB 5 Ounce Silver Coins, 2012 Olympic Medals, Trillion Dollar Coins

We’re back to bring you another round up of coin collecting news and articles from around the internet! First, another bill which seeks to address the growing hoard of $1 coins held by the Federal Reserve Banks. Following two separate bills introduced last week, a third bill has been introduced in Congress to deal with the $1 coin issue. This bill would require the Secretary of the Treasury to suspend the Presidential $1 Coin Program at times when surplus inventories exceed the reasonable circulation needs for one year.

Ohio plans for the release of the James A. Garfield Presidential Dollar, with an official launch ceremony held on November 17 at the President’s former home.

Yesterday, the United States Mint released the 2010-P Mount Hood Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coin. This post on Mint News Blog has information on the offering as well as a recap of the last four numismatic releases of the series.

On the bullion front, the Mint has removed all ordering limits for the Chickasaw National Recreation Area design. Sales had been progressing slowly compared to the other designs released earlier in the year.
