Confusion and frustration reigned yesterday when the US Mint sent out an email notification to 100,000 customers indicating that the upcoming 2010 Proof Silver Eagle and other products were sold out. The emails were sent in error and the orders will be reinstated.
After three month of mild declines, circulating coin production at the United States Mint rebounded in October. There were 730.22 million coins produced, concentrated in the lower denominations.
Krause Publications has named the 2011 Coin of the Year Winners. There had been five U.S. coins nominated, including the 2009 Ultra High Relief Saint Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin, but none were named as winner. The coin image used for today’s update is Finland’s Peace and Security 20 Euro coin, which won for “Best Crown.”
