    In what seems to be a popular method of protest, a student from the University of Calgary paid his tuition with over 100 kilograms (over 200 pounds) of coins. He was protesting the University’s decision to no longer accept credit cards.

    Coin World has a great article on Proof Like Morgan Dollars, which includes information on the origin, characteristics, and degrees of reflectivity.

    Bald Eagle Commemorative Coins have now been on sale for over 4 months. Take a look at the most recent mintage figures.

    CoinNews.net makes the observation that when penny composition changes were first discussed, the cost of making a penny in 2007 was revealed as 1.67 cents. The cost today is 1.26 cents, showing some huge volatility for even a small time period.

    On Friday, Exchange Traded Notes (ETN) for Platinum began trading. The ETN will provide exposure to the price movements of platinum.

    eBay’s plan to make Paypal payment mandatory in the Australian market has not gone over very well, making some sellers “absolutely furious” and drawing anti-trust concerns. At the time of the initial announcement, there was some speculation that eBay was testing out the idea in a smaller market before attempting to implement something similar in the United States.

    Collector’s Universe, the parent company of PCGS, reported their quarterly results on Friday.

    Yesterday, the House passed legislation that would change the composition of pennies and nickels.

    Odyssey Marine Exploration was in the news again as Spain laid claim to the entire $500 million worth of sunken treasure they discovered in the Atlantic. Spain filed evidence that the shipwreck was a Spanish navy vessel and therefore property of Spain under the principle of sovereign immunity. Odyssey responded to the claim in this press release.

    A different recently sunken treasure recently discovered off the coast of Namibia begins the long process of archaeological detective work.
